On page 3 of this thread estate girl has just posted an up to date form for people to download and print off.

Print it off, fill it in and keep hold of it until you arrive.

Then get the NIE number and a Social number would be advised too.

If you are working as a PR or in a abr...they should by law ask you for your NIE...if they do not then they are wrong...anyway...for your own benefit and to be legal here i would advise you get both NIE and social number.

But unless the social number is validated (dado de alta) then you cannot use it to see a Doctor.

I'm afraid that the links on this thread for printing off NIE forms are not working. There is probably a more up to date link on another thread, and I am sure that some kind soul will be able to guide us in that direction.

I have been able to print off NIE forms from the past, but I have two different formats. One has 'EX-14' in the bottom right hand corner, and the other has 'EX-14bis'. Does anybody know which is the current form to be used, please?

Thanks Mary. It's good to be back, and in excellent health.

Please could you bring the form up on your PC and see if either 'EX-14' or 'EX14 bis' are down the bottom of it. I have a quite a few copies of each, and I'm not sure which is the current one to be used. I'm trying to help a couple here in Puerto to obtain their NIE numbers.

If neither is up to date I will be pleased to receive an email. In that case please 'pm' me. Thanks babe. xxx

Here is the new link:

http://www.mir.es/SGACAVT/modelos/extranjeria/modelos_extranje/ex_14.pdf

The bis one is for people who apply via a Spanish Consulate or Embassy as the only difference I noticed was that you need to put the name of the Embassy or Consulate at the top.

hello i am new here,
just came today (4/12/2007) from the national police office for the nie number, here in the north of Tenerife (La Laguna), and got this paper beside the 2 copies of form for apply, with what is needed for getting a NIE.

1.solicitud cumplimentada por duplicado
2.original y fotocopia del pasaporte
3.certificado de empadronamiento del ayuntamiento
4.fotocopia de la solicitud de la oficina de extranjeros (for us this is in Calle La Marina 20, in Santa Cruz)
5.justificar documentalmente la necesidad del NIE

in translation it would mean something like this, maybe someone who is better in english can translate this in to more english english.

1.two filled copies of NIE forms (that you get at national police station)
2.original and photocopy of the passport
3.certificat of residence from the city councle (you get this at city councle if you have a renting contract for 2EUR and it take 1-2 weeks)
4.photocopy of the request from the foreigners office
5.documentarily to justify the necessity of the NIE

the 5th is hard if you don't have a job contract or a contract of buying a house,
I have the 1,2,3
I will try to fix 4&5 tomorrow or monday, will let you know how it went.
ciao

I had never heard of an NIE form before so this is a bit of a hurdle. If i was to go for a simple job like working in a bar over the summer would i still need to apply? X

Yes and if the bar do not ask for one don't work there as it is illegal for a a bar not to have the proper paperwork and they can be closed down...

Every job over here should require an NIE....also if you are living in Tenerife...or Spain as a whole, you need a NIE..

No, no contract necessary. The NIE number should really be your first port of call when living here, so just the passport errr, is that it? Cant remember, its ages since I did mine. But its pretty simple, dont worry
