English Teacher
I've been teaching English for eight years in Asia with a TEFL certificate and two management qualifications but no degree. I'm wondering if most Spanish in Tenerife speak English or are there possibilities of teaching perhaps business English or Primary to a private class. I know the UK has regulations and standards but not sure about Spain. I have a lot of experience and confidence which could lead to some work but need some guidence on this. I was thinking about giving teaching a break but my second thought is, Why stop while I have the whole teaching book in my head. seems a shame to stop in some ways. I could mix a few private classes with another part time job until things pick up. What are your suggestions on this?
Thanks in Advance! _________________ The most amazing lesson I've learnt is take the best parts of every culture and religeon with me and never complain about the rest |

Most Spanish in Tenerife do not speak English. There are quite a number of people who give private lessons but most of these also have quite a good level of Spanish also.
A friend of mine was going to teach English and was taking a course... I'll have to ask her how she's getting on. _________________ .

There are also opportunities to work as a classroom assistant in Spanish state schools. I've forgotten Trevor's (the man who organizes these posts) email but Bardofely recently worked in a secondary school so he may have it. I don't think he had any teaching qualifications and really enjoyed the experience. I have friends who have taught / still teach as classroom assistants and one spoke no Spanish and the other speaks only a little, though just being there she is learning lots and gaining confidence as she is speaking it daily with her colleagues. I believe they prefer people who do not speak much Spanish as the children cannot cheat then!
There are definitely less restrictions in Spain.
Have you taken a look at infojobs.com ? This is a good Spanish website which many larger companies use to advertise for staff. Or elbaul.es _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

I'll have a look at those links, thanks Jenny. It's good to know there might be a possibility to teach then and if you remember your friends contact let me know and i'll have a chat.
What's your job if you don't mind me asking? _________________ The most amazing lesson I've learnt is take the best parts of every culture and religeon with me and never complain about the rest |

BardofEly is a forum member and will be able to give you the email. If he isn't about or doesn't see this post either PM him or remind me and I will get hold of the email for you.
I work for a fantastic internet marketing company.
Do you speak any Spanish? There is a demand for good Spanish teachers as there are many Brits who move to Tenerife not knowing any of the local language (and by that I mean Spanish ), some who then realize that life would be much easier and cheaper (no interpreter fees to pay) if they spoke at least the basics. _________________ Who am I? I will PM you the email you need. Yes, I loved working as a classroom assistant and want to find another such job. I have said I am prepared to move if a vacancy comes up.
You are much better qualified than I am so should have a better chance than me!
Good luck finding something! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Be prepared to wait a while - it took me many months to get taken on but I'm hoping it doesn't take a long time again! It all depends on the vacancies really and where you are prepared to work.
I am currently saying anywhere on the island and am prepared to move if a permanent job is there. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
